How To Volunteer

Once you’ve decided that you want to become a St. Joseph Health volunteer, it’s simple to follow the application process.

The fact that all of our volunteers have submitted to this process ensures that you’ll be volunteering alongside quality people with a proven heart for others – not to mention the skilled healthcare professionals of St. Joseph Health.

The Volunteer Services Department of St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital in Bryan oversees all of the volunteer programs for the St. Joseph Health System.

Please review the options below to select the appropriate application to complete. All applications require you to submit a reference letter. Instructions are provided when you complete your application.

Once you submit your application, it will be sent directly to Volunteer Services for review. 

Adult Volunteer Application -  Adults (non-students) volunteering at any of our hospitals, Rehab Center, Cancer Center, Skilled Nursing & Rehab or College Station locations in any of our available assignments.

College Volunteer Application – college students and those who are pursuing educational goals in health-related careers or want to give back to our community. This program runs by the semester with new orientations offered at the beginning of each semester. Space fills up quickly, so we recommend that you apply early. Below are the deadlines for the submission of your application and letter of recommendation. If accepted into the volunteer program, your immunization requirements may be sent to [email protected]

Application Deadlines:
 

  • Fall - To volunteer for a fall semester you must apply by the end of the 1st week of July.
  • Spring—To volunteer for a spring semester you must apply by the end of November.
  • Summer - To volunteer for the summer session you must apply by the end of the 1st week of April.
  • Volunteer work for each semester will begin on the same weeks as Texas A&M University classes.

Applications and reference letters received after those dates will be held for the following semester.

Therapy (Physical, Occupational & Speech) Volunteer Application - Students and other adults interested in volunteering and obtaining observation/shadowing hours in physical, occupational and/or speech therapy.

The deadlines to apply are the same for therapy as they are for the college application.

Caring Canines Application – This is a pet Therapy program for adults who have a dog which has passed an animal screening required for pet therapy/visitation programs. Open the application for a list of all requirements.

Nightingale Application - RN Volunteer Program for retired or inactive nurses who would like to use their professional expertise by providing compassionate care to patients and their families.

Senior Enrichment Application (formerly Friends of Manor program)- Individuals and group members interested in helping with games, visitation and activities at St. Joseph Health Skilled Nursing & Rehab, Bryan.

Student Observer Application (Apply only after you have found someone to shadow)– Students who need shadowing hours may apply to our Student Observation program. Keep in mind that this is not a volunteer position and that you will need to be accompanied at all times by your assigned physician or staff member. This is observation only and patient/equipment handling is not permitted. To shadow a physician you will need to make personal contact with that physician or physician office and request permission to shadow. Teen Volunteer Application- Please complete this application form if you are interested in becoming a Teen Volunteer at St. Joseph Health, in Bryan, Texas. This program is for students ages 14-17. Application deadlines are below.

  • Fall - To volunteer for a fall semester you must apply by the end of the 1st week of July.
  • Spring - To volunteer for a spring semester you must apply by the end of November.
  • Summer - To volunteer for the summer session you must apply by the end of the 1st week of April.
  • Teen volunteer work for each semester will begin on the same weeks as Texas A&M University classes.

 

Applications and reference letters received after those dates will be held for the following semester.

Rural Hospital Volunteer Application - If you are interested in volunteering with one of our rural hospitals in Caldwell, Madisonville, and Navasota, or our Manor long-term care facility in Caldwell then please complete this application.

Caldwell Skilled Nursing & Rehab - To volunteer with the St. Joseph Health Skilled Nursing & Rehab facility located in Caldwell complete this application. For churches, schools, businesses, or non-profit groups looking to serve, please reach out to Georgette Maynard at [email protected].  

Musical Volunteers - To provide uplifting, relaxing music in patient and visitor waiting areas at St. Joseph Health facilities. This program is for volunteers ages 14 and up. Musical volunteers commit to performing once a month for a 1-hour minimum. If you are interested in volunteering with our musical program, please email [email protected] and include “Musical Volunteer” in the subject box."

Art Volunteers - For volunteers to create art that can be given to patients upon department requests. There are many patients who stay in our hospitals who have no friends/family to brighten their rooms with flowers, cards, or stuffed animals. This is an opportunity to bring a little sunshine into a cloudy room and make a difference in somebody’s life. Requirements to volunteer for this program are minimal.
