St. Joseph Health Welcomes College Station Medical Center: Organizations will enhance care for residents of Brazos Valley

Posted in: Partnerships

July 31, 2019 (Bryan, TX) – College Station Medical Center (CSMC) is now affiliated with St. Joseph Health. Together, both organizations provide more than 50 care locations, including CSMC’s associated physician clinics, and have more than 3,000 employees. Coming together offers opportunities to expand services; improve the delivery and quality of care; and broaden access to services for individuals, employers, and communities in the Brazos Valley. Combining the care CSMC provides with the specialized care offered by St. Joseph Health — especially in oncology, cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgery and emergency and trauma areas – allows the organization to use innovative technology and offer patients resources that are at the forefront of modern medicine. The affiliation also increases the number of St. Joseph and Texas A&M Primary Care locations in the College Station area, as well as adds 15 new providers to the St. Joseph and Texas A&M Health Network. The facility’s name will be St. Joseph Health – College Station Hospital and the physician clinics will also be renamed to St. Joseph Health. "This will allow us to grow our mission of a healing ministry in the Brazos Valley as we create healthier communities," said Theron Park, president and CEO of St. Joseph Health. “This acquisition expands access to health care and enhances existing health services for College Station residents, key reasons for CSMC to become part of the St. Joseph family.” St. Joseph Health and Subsidiaries of Community Health Systems Inc. (NYSE: CYH) signed an agreement for College Station Medical Center (CSMC) to become part of St. Joseph Health on May 23, 2019. St. Joseph Health is now the owner of CSMC, as well as College Station MedPlus locations, and College Station Medical Associates. The combined organization has eight locations and 15 employed clinicians. St. Joseph Health does not anticipate any loss of jobs as a result of the affiliation. Substantially all employees currently in good standing will maintain employment. Through this affiliation, CSMC will become a non-profit Catholic hospital and share the St. Joseph Health Mission, as well as participate in the charity care policy, which supports patients in the Brazos Valley with little or no insurance who need access to healthcare. St. Joseph supports several initiatives in the region including the Brazos Health Resource Center, which works daily to connect patients to other services in our community to improve their quality of life. In 2018, St. Joseph Health provided $60 million in community benefit to support the community’s healthcare needs. In the near future, St. Joseph Health will communicate any changes in services or service locations, as well as continue to communicate updates or changes to insurances or processes that may differ with our current practices or policies.
