CHI St. Joseph Health Provides Fast, Precise, Cutting-Edge Pediatric Care Onboard AirMed 12

Bryan, TX, March 13, 2019-Emergency Medical Service staff onboard CHI St. Joseph Heath’s AirMed 12, the medical helicopter that acts as an extension of the Regional Hospital’s level II trauma center, have implemented the use of Handtevy Pediatric Emergency Standards when treating pediatric patients. Developed by pediatric emergency medicine physician and EMS Medical Director, Dr. Peter Antevy, the Handtevy standards rely only on the patient’s age to determine drug dosing and equipment sizing. It also calculates that dosing, based on the hospital’s individual protocols, for every drug carried on AirMed 12. In addition to offering greater accuracy in treatment of pediatric patients, the system alleviates stress for first responder in emergency situations as they are assessing their young patients and determining a course of treatment. Previous methods used to determine and calculate the appropriate dosages and equipment size proved inaccurate at times. As additional EMS systems across the Brazos Valley integrate the Handtevy system into their protocols, more pediatric patients will benefit from seamless and continuous treatment, streamlining their move toward definitive, hospital-based care. About CHI St. Joseph Health: Since 1936 CHI St. Joseph Health has been caring for the communities of Bryan, College Station, Brenham, Hearne, Navasota, Caldwell, Madisonville and Bellville. With the area’s only Level II Trauma Center, the first Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Center and the first accredited Chest Pain Center in the Brazos Valley, CHI St. Joseph Health is a leader in critical care and the largest provider of cardiovascular care in the region.
